Why Found Again is free
Updated 13 October 2026
Found Again is free photo recovery for Mac. There's no limit on what you recover, no trial, no account and no email sign-up. People reasonably ask what the catch is, so here's how it came about and how it keeps going.
Download Found Again freeIt started with a Fujifilm card
We needed to rescue deleted Fujifilm photos from an SD card. So we did what most people do. We searched, downloaded a recovery app and ran a scan. It found the photos. Then it asked for money before it would save a single one.
We tried another app, and another. Each one scanned for free, then wanted a subscription or a license fee before it would save the files. Some offered a free allowance measured in megabytes, which a few RAW files use up.
There's real work in recovery software, and we don't begrudge anyone charging for it. But it felt wrong to find our photos and then be asked to pay to get them back, at a moment when most people are anxious and short of options.
So we built our own
Camera cards use the FAT32 and exFAT file systems, and a deleted photo usually stays on the card until something is saved over it. Getting it back takes careful reading of the card and a lot of testing, and once ours worked, it seemed silly to put it behind a paywall for the next person in the same position.
Found Again grew from there. It now reads deleted file records to bring files back with their original names, runs a deep scan for formatted cards, handles RAW files from all the major camera brands, and works with USB sticks and external drives as well as memory cards.
Free, with no catch
- No limits on how many files or how much data you recover.
- No trial, no account and no email address.
- No tracking and no data collected. The app never connects to the internet.
- Nothing locked away. What you download is the whole app.
How it keeps going
After a successful recovery, Found Again offers you the option to leave a tip. That's the only time it asks. If it helped and you'd like to say thanks, a tip pays for the time that goes into keeping it working with new cameras and new versions of macOS. If you'd rather not, that's fine. Telling a friend who's lost photos helps too.

Who we are
Found Again is made by weio Ltd, a small company in the UK. We try to build it the way we'd want a recovery tool to work. It only reads your disk, it's clear about where your files are going, and it's honest about what can't be recovered. When something can't come back, such as files deleted from a Mac's own SSD, we say so and point you to the places that might still have a copy.
Questions

How do you pay for it?
Through optional tips from people it helped. The app offers the tip only after a successful recovery.
Does Found Again collect my data?
No. It has no tracking and never connects to the internet. Your files are read on your Mac and saved to a folder on your Mac.
